Our Story

Funkins were created to make lunchtime more fun and environmentally friendly.

Funkins are the inspiration of MyFunkins Founder Lisa Baumgartner, who in 2005 found herself in need of washable napkins for kids when her son Braeden’s school asked parents to help reduce school lunch waste. But there were none to be found!

Eight years later, with Brett and Rachel also in school, Lisa was surprised to discover there were still no kids’ cloth napkins on the market! And so, Funkins were born.

Now, when Braeden, Brett and Rachel open their lunch boxes and see their Funkins, they are reminded that mom is thinking of them. And envisioning her children’s faces when they open their lunches warms Lisa’s heart!

Our Team

Lisa Baumgartner

Founder & CEO

lisa@myfunkins.com

Lisa Baumgartner is the very proud mom of Braeden (10), Brett (9) and Rachel (6), whose smiles are the inspiration behind Funkins. Braeden, Brett and Rachel also play a key role in the company, serving as our Design Consultants and Chief Product Testers.

As an active Class Parent, Class Parent Program Coordinator, and PTA member for her children's classes, Lisa observed dozens of events where paper napkins and throw-away table cloths filled the school's trash bins. With a strong desire to teach her children responsibility for their environment, while having fun, Funkins seemed a perfect fit for mealtime and parties at home and at school. So Lisa decided to spread the cheer - and now, Funkins are here!

Lisa has a business degree from The University of Ottawa and she is a professionally Accredited Member of the Public Relations Society of America. Lisa began her career working in marketing for McDonald's Restaurants of Canada in Winnipeg, MB and Victoria, BC, before relocating to Bermuda where she worked as Marketing Manager at Capital G Bank. Lisa has thoroughly enjoyed being home with her children for nearly 10 years. During this time, she has served on numerous charitable boards and she currently sits on the Board of Trustees of Saltus Grammar School.

The Baumgartner family uses all the Funkins patterns and they especially love to share them with their friends and teachers. Their favorite patterns are the holiday Funkins - holidays are special celebrations in the Baumgartner home and Funkins are the perfect touch!

Mark Monaghan

Financial Controller

mark@myfunkins.com

Mark is an accountant, so he is great with finances and all that stuff, and he is also a really fun dad. So he has everything we need for our Financial Controller (and, as it turns out, our voice of reason!).

Mark grew up in Wetaskiwin, Alberta and lived in Bermuda from 1992 to 2011. He received his accounting designation from the Society of Management Accountants of Alberta, and has worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers in both Canada and Bermuda. Mark worked with The Bermuda Press Limited for seven years as the Financial Controller, and he has also done volunteer accounting and treasury work for several charitable organizations.

When Mark's oldest son, Jack, was born, he joined the ranks of at-home parents and has been a stay-at-home dad to Jack (10), Sydney (8) and George (4) ever since.

Mark, his wife, Carol and the kids have recently moved to Canada from Bermuda, where they now live in Red Deer, Alberta.

The Monaghan boy's favourites are the camo and transportation Funkins and the girls love the Flower Power Funkins.

Bonnie Pollreis

Community Relations Manager

bonnie@myfunkins.com

Bonnie Pollreis used to work with Funkins founder & CEO Lisa Baumgartner at McDonald's Restaurants’ Winnipeg Regional Office. Bonnie was the office manager at the time, and she and Lisa quickly became friends. When Lisa transferred to Victoria, the ladies vowed that they would someday work together again. Many years later, here they are working together on Funkins! Bonnie joined the team as the Community Relations Manager.

Bonnie lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba with her husband Andrew and nine-year-old twins Owen and Paige. She has an Executive Assistant Diploma from a business college, and after becoming a mom, she quickly realized that she wanted to work in an environment where kids were involved. Bonnie began working in a middle school office as an administrative assistant handling student enrolment and student records.

The Pollreis family loves the entire line of Funkins. It’s a family oriented company, and Funkins are unique, kid friendly and a fun addition to Owen and Paige’s lunchboxes! The pink puppies Funkin in the girls Backyard Buddies set is just one of Paige and Bonnie’s favourites.

Kelly Bloxom

Alberta and BC Regional Manager

kelly@myfunkins.com

Kelly Bloxom is the father of two kids, Gabe and Katie, and he’s proud to be a stay at home dad. Kelly grew up in Chilliwack, British Columbia and received his Bachelors of Art degree with a major in geography from Simon Fraser University. Kelly worked as a judicial clerk at the provincial level in both BC and Alberta but decided to stay home to raise his children when Gabe was two and a half years old.

Kelly met Lisa during a two-year work period in Bermuda. The Bloxom family fell in love with Funkins, and now Kelly has joined the team as the Alberta and BC Regional Manager. Gabe's favorite Funkins are the soccer ball themes and Katie's are the flower Funkins.

The Bloxoms currently live in Calgary, where Kelly is an active volunteer coaching baseball and soccer. He loves climbing mountains and stand-up paddleboarding, and he always packs Funkins for the kids when they’re travelling on a plane or making a trip to the beach.

Carrie Webb

Distribution Manager

carrie@myfunkins.com

Carrie knows kids about as well as any of us. She is mom of Kamryn 11, Khyler 8, and Layten 2.  She has worked with children for years, in several childcare facilities and in her own home daycare for seven years. So between home and work, Carrie has seen a lot of lunch boxes and she feels Funkins are the perfect addition - practical, fun and environmentally friendly.

Once Carrie’s children started school, she started working with Kenora Rainy River Districts Child and Family Services.

Carrie holds a diploma from Confederation College of Applied Arts and Technology and is presently working on a degree in psychology through Athabaska University.

As Distribution Manager for Funkins, Carrie is responsible for getting all of our orders fulfilled and delivered, on time and around the world.

Carrie lives in Dryden, Ontario with her fiancé Chris and their children. They love the Lunch Buddies Monkey Funkins pattern.

Andrew Pollreis

Creative Director

When Andrew Pollreis’s wife Bonnie joined the Funkins team as the Community Relations Manager, she volunteered his graphic design skills on a project. Now, Andrew is fully involved as Funkins Creative Director. He helps strengthen the Funkins brand by coming up with creative branding ideas. He also lends his design experience for matching patterns and colour combinations for new upcoming Funkins.

Andrew and Bonnie live in Winnipeg, Manitoba with their nine-year-old twins Owen and Paige. Andrew has an Advertising Art diploma from Red River College, and he works as the graphic designer in the editorial department for a local Winnipeg newspaper.

The boys in the Pollreis house have chosen the Slam Dunk Funkins set as their favourite.
